Pottery Project

pottery workshops

A large number of pottery workshops in Al-Gharbia Governorate were demolished and removed because they were located on banks and canals used for irrigation, and they did not have the necessary permits and did not comply with environmental regulations.

A protocol has been signed between the Dr. Ahmed Abu Ismail Foundation and the Industrial Development Authority, the Small and Micro Enterprise Development Agency, the Industry Modernization Authority, and the International University of Egypt (MSA) to conduct training courses for pottery makers in Samanoud and introduce them to the latest designs to keep up with the developments of the era.

We have cooperated with the Small and Micro Enterprise Development Agency, which provided assistance through granting small loans to pottery makers to enable them to purchase production supplies and market their products in local exhibitions.

The chairman of the board of trustees, Dr. Laila Ahmed Abu Ismail, also met with representatives of the Industrial Modernization and Small and Micro Projects Authority.

Communication has been established between Dr. Leila Ahmed Abu Ismail and the Governor of Gharbia, Professor Dr. Tarek Rahmy. A land area of 2 acres has been allocated to build 50 pottery workshops on the bank of the canal from Kafr Al-Thaabaneya to Mit Asas.

The institution is currently preparing a business incubator and providing environmentally friendly furnaces through civil society organizations. This project aims to eliminate unemployment and improve the standard of living for pottery industry owners and reviving the heritage that is threatened with extinction. The foundation is also raising awareness among the youth of Samanod about the importance of the pottery industry to put it back on the tourism map and revive the oldest craft in history. The foundation is also working towards establishing a pottery school in Samanod that would teach students a craft that has a historical significance in Egypt.

Dr. Laila Ahmed Abu Ismail met with the pottery workers, in the presence of a committee from the Industry and Small, Micro and Medium Enterprises Development Union, as well as the Education Committee at the House of Representatives, to discuss ways to modernize this industry through organizing training courses for workers to keep up with modern methods in this industry, as well as organizing exhibitions and opening new markets for them.
